Primer Competencia de Chocolates de Centro América, 2017

Judging dates: November 18, 2017 – November 21, 2017


We are pleased to announce our first Central American Support Competition (Primer Competencia de Chocolates de Centro América 2017), an outreach project of the International Chocolate Awards and a Lutheran World Relief (LWR) initiative through the Regional Cacao Móvil project, funded by the Cooperación Suiza en América Central and held in partnership with CUNAKakaw, the mark of high quality cacao and chocolate in Mesoamerica.

We are proud that our first Central American Cacao Country Support Competition will be held in Managua, Nicaragua, a recognised source of fine cacao where there has been a recent revival in the interest in cacao quality and understanding of fine flavour.

The first Central American competition will be held between 18-21 November 2017 and recognises the tradition and culture of chocolate and cacao over thousands of years in the historical Mesoamerica area. The competition aims to help develop local production of craft and fine flavour chocolate products in the emerging fine chocolate industry and stimulate the production of fine cacao in the Central American region.

The competition will be run using the International Chocolate Awards judging system and rules and will be adjudicated by members of our Grand Jury. This Cacao Country Support Competition judges bars, filled chocolates, and chocolate beverages, and it is not part of our 2017 World Final qualifying series. Designed as a self-contained Regional edition, the competition will help to establish objective and transparent benchmarks that contribute to the self-evaluation of emerging fine chocolate industries in cacao-growing countries.

Open to all Central American companies with their main office or headquarters located in: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, México or Panama. The competition accepts entries from the following types of products: plain origin chocolate bars (dark, milk or white); flavoured bars (dark, milk or white), with infusions, inclusions, and filled; filled chocolates, and chocolate beverages.

The Primer Competencia de Chocolates de Centro América is a Cacao Country Support Competition and not part of our World Final qualifying series of competitions.

The admission fee for this competition is USD $25 and the fee for each entry is USD $20. Prices will be converted into local currency by your credit card company, if required.

Sample quantities

To ensure that we have enough products go through our Selection, Main and Grand Jury judging rounds, please send the following quantities of EACH product you enter:

  • Bars: 300g total weight
  • Filled/bonbons etc: 30 pieces
  • Spreads: 200g
  • Hot chocolate: 300ml
