European Bean-to-bar Competition, 2018

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Judging dates: May 10, 2018 – June 11, 2018

THIS COMPETITION WAS ALREADY JUDGED.

Amsterdam again plays host to the only international competition devoted purely to bean-to-bar and micro-batch chocolate bars. This competition is for bars produced in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and this year takes place with extended judging from 1 May – 11 June 2018, culminating in the final judging and Grand Jury sessions, which will be held 8 – 11 June at the Hilton Amsterdam.

The European Bean-to-Bar Competition 2018 focuses on cacao origins and varieties and carft chocolate production, exploring and celebrating the nuanced notes of fine origin chocolate from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Winners will pass through to the World Final in London in October 2018.

New for 2018 – Chocolatier and Bean-to-bar competitions

From 2018 onwards, our separate Bean-to-Bar competitions will focus on fine, craft and micro-batch chocolate makers who work directly from cacao beans to produce plain/origin and flavoured chocolate bars.

Our national and regional competitions have now become Chocolatier Competitions, focusing on the craft and skill of small-scale chocolatiers who work with chocolate couverture and flavouring ingredients to create fine chocolate bars, bonbons and spreads. This includes bonbons and spreads from bean-to-bar makers and flavoured bars made from couverture.

All bean-to-bar chocolate makers should submit all their plain/origin AND flavoured bars to their regional Bean-to-Bar competition.

The competition is supported by the Hilton Amsterdam, and bean-to-bar chocolate shop Chocolatl.

Since our first competitions in 2012, the International Chocolate Awards has championed fine chocolate made in cacao countries, with special prizes for high quality ‘Growing Country’ prize-winning bars within our main plain/origin categories. In 2018 we continue this tradition, recognising the success and quality of cacao growing country chocolate makers producing world class chocolate within our main categories.

Eligibility

Open to all companies producing chocolate directly from cacao and also private-label bean sourcers with their main office or headquarters in Europe, the Middle East or Africa. This competition is for bean-to-bar plain/origin and flavoured bars only.

The admission fee for this competition is EUR €55 and the fee for each entry is EUR €40. Prices will be converted into local currency by your credit card company, if required.
