British Chocolatier Competition, 2019

The British competition is the UK’s only chocolate awards dedicated purely to chocolatier products made in the UK by British chocolate companies. Republic of Ireland chocolate companies may also enter this competition.

The British Chocolatier Competition celebrates the craft of chocolatiers and chocolate companies who create filled chocolates, truffles, ganaches, caramels, fondants, enrobed fruits and nuts, and spreads made from chocolate couverture or from the entrant’s own bean-to-bar chocolate. The competition also includes flavoured chocolate bars made from chocolate couverture, where the entrant is not the chocolate maker.

Judging of the British Chocolatier Competition 2019 will be held in the historic UK chocolate city of York and will take place on 9 – 10 September 2019.

Winners of the competitions will go forward to to the World Final in Florence, on 7 – 12 October 2019.

Eligibility

This competition is open to all companies with their main base or head office in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland for all filled chocolates, covered nuts and fruits and spreads made from bean-to-bar chocolate and for flavoured bars, filled chocolate, covered nuts and fruits, and spreads made from couverture where the entrant is not the chocolate maker.

All bean-to-bar dark, milk, white plain/origin and flavoured bars were judged at the European, Middle Eastern and African Bean-to-Bar Competition, which this year took place on 12 – 16 June 2019 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Hand deliveries of samples is accepted, but all samples must be correctly labelled and securely boxed to avoid damage.

NOTE: If you also submitted plain/origin or flavoured bean-to-bar entries to the European, Middle Estern and African Bean-to-bar Competition, you will not be charged an admission fee for the British Chocolatier Competition.

This is a Chocolatier competition for all categories EXCEPT for Plain/origin and Flavoured dark, milk and white bars made by Bean-to-Bar chocolate makers. These products are judged at the regional Bean-to-Bar competition, held in: Denmark.

The admission fee for this competition is GBP £50 and the fee for each entry is GBP £40. Prices will be converted into local currency by your credit card company, if required.

Dates

To ensure your samples are in the best condition for the competition, please do not send for delivery before the samples opening date. For fresh products such as ganaches, you are advised to send in the last week before the closing date.

Sample quantities

To ensure that we have enough products go through our Selection, Main and Grand Jury judging rounds, please send the following quantities of EACH product you enter:

  • Bars: 400g (14 ounces) total weight
  • Filled/bonbons etc: 40 pieces
  • Spreads: 1 jar (min 300 grams/10 ounces)
