World Drinking Chocolate Competition, 2020

WETTBEWERB GESCHLOSSEN.

We are pleased to announce our 2020 World Drinking Chocolate competition, in partnership with the virtual Schokoladen Gourmet Festival 25-27 September 2020, run by our partner in Hannover, Germany, Chocolats-de-luxe.de.

The return of our Drinking Chocolate competition celebrates the origins of chocolate as a drink and its importance in pre-Colombian and European chocolate history. The revival of high-quality drinking chocolate within the craft chocolate movement celebrates the thousands of years where chocolate was consumed as a drink, before the invention of the modern chocolate bar in Europe in the 19th century.

The Drinking Chocolate competition will judge drinks made with chocolate, chocolate preparations, cocoa powder mixes, infusions, products made from the cacao pulp or fruit and alcoholic drinks made with chocolate or cacao.

Because of the COVID-19 restrictions, samples will be received in Hannover and sent out to an experienced panel of our Grand Jury and senior judges with good culinary experience, who will prepare the drinks to your recipes in their homes. The panel will include wine and spirit experts for the alcohol category.

Results will be announced during the virtual Schokoladen Gourmet Festival 25-27 September.

 

Qualifikation

Open to all chocolate companies around the World. Our normal rules apply about all-natural ingredients and minimum percentages. Please see our Categories and Rules PDF for details.

Please note that products entered must be available for retail sale in a form that consumers can take away and prepare or consume at home. Products must be on sale for at least one month in 2020.

Recipe: To ensure standardised judging by our experienced judging panel working at home, you must provide a recommended recipe for your product, including recommended fat percentages and type of milk, if used, and for sweetening if required.

Please note, the only ingredients we can provide are water or milk/cream, heated as directed and sugar if required. All other ingredients required for the recipe must be part of the drinking chocolate product.

Short-life drinks, eg ganache based

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions for the competition this year, we cannot accept entries of ready-made or fresh short-life products unless you can submit individual sealed containers of not more than 400ml for each judge. Please contact us for more details.

Die Teilnahmegebühr für den Wettbewerb ist €50 zuzüglich €50 für jedes zu bewertende Produkt. (Eine mögliche Umrechnung in die lokale Währung erfolgt durch den Kreditkartenabrechnungsstelle – sofern nötig).
