DACH – Deutschland / Österreich / Schweiz Wettbewerb Chocolatier Competition, 2020

Due to the special situation with the COVID-19 coronavirus affecting events in Europe, the DACH competition will be judged this year by remote judging only.

This is a difficult time for the world, for business and for chocolate, but we want to continue to support the fine and craft chocolate world during this challenging situation – and hopefully provide some good news for fine chocolate companies, helping to celebrate and support the work of small artisans and to help to promote the best in chocolate.

Remote judging

Your entries will be received as usual by our German partner CHOCOLATS-DE-LUXE.DE GmbH in Hannover, who are also hosting the 2020 European, Middle Eastern and African Bean-to-Bar Competition. All products will then be repacked as blinded samples and sent to our panel of international judges and Grand Jury to judge at home using our online judging system. We have been using remote judging for bars in some of our competitions since 2018 and this year for filled chocolates and bonbons for the Italian/Mediterranean competition and we are confident that this system will allow us to maintain a high quality of judging. Reference sets of each submission will be held at the receiving venue in case of any issue with the samples sent to judges and products will be blinded as usual.

Judging will commence once all the samples have been packed, after the deadline to receive samples of 30 April 2020. Judging will take place at the start of May and we hope to announce the winners in June. Unfortunately at this time we are unable to say if we’ll be able to hold a ceremony for this competition, but we are looking at options in the autumn season if the situation has improved by then.

Entry fees and quantities

To help support our entrants, we are waiving the registration fee of €55 Euros, so it will now be free to register and you will only pay the fee for each product entered. We are also reducing the quantities required to 300 grams of bars in total for each product entered, and to 30 pieces of bonbons for each product entered.

Bean-to-bar chocolate makers with plain/origin and flavoured bars can enter them into the European, Middle Eastern and African Bean-to-Bar Competition.

Winners of this competition will pass through to the World Final, which will be held later in the year, with the timing depending on the ongoing situation.  

Elegibilidad

This competition judges filled chocolates, bonbons, ganaches, truffles, pralines, caramels, fondants and spreads made from couverture chocolate, and filled chocolates, bonbons, ganaches, truffles, pralines, caramels, fondants and spreads made from bean-to-bar chocolate. The competition also includes flavoured chocolate bars made from couverture chocolate purchased from a chocolate maker.

The competition is open to all companies with their main business or head office in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Bean-to-bar chocolate makers with plain/origin and flavoured bars can enter the European, Middle Eastern and African Bean-to-Bar Competition, which will take place using the same remote judging method in coordination with our partner CHOCOLATS-DE-LUXE.DE GmbH in Hannover, Germany.

Esta es una competición nacional / regional para todas las categorías, excepto Barras Negras sin Saborizar Simple/Origen, barras con leche y barras blancas. Estas categorías son evaluadas en la competición semi-final, celebrada en Germany.

El precio de admisión para esta competición es EUR €0 y la cuota para cada inscripción es EUR €50. Los precios serán convertidos a moneda local por su compañía de tarjeta de crédito, si es necesario.

Para asegurarnos de que tenemos suficientes productos para nuestras rondas de Selección, Evaluación General y Gran Jurado, por favor envíe las siguientes cantidades de cada producto que inscriba:
