We are pleased to open the 2020 Americas Bean-to-Bar and Chocolatier Competition in this challenging year for cacao farmers and chocolate makers and the whole community.

Because of the COVID situation, The Americas Competition will be judged this year with special judging arrangements, with home judging by our international panel of experienced judges.

The Americas Competition brings together bean-to-bar chocolate bars and chocolatier products from North, South and Central America to celebrate innovation and excellence in fine chocolate, including the USA – home of the micro-batch craft chocolate movement, and the Latin and Caribbean countries that grow fine cacao.

The Americas Bean-to-Bar and Chocolatier Competition includes standard and micro-batch categories for plain/origin chocolate bars and all other chocolatier categories – flavoured bars, filled chocolates/bonbons and spreads. This includes all Americas countries and regions, except Canadian chocolatier products, which are judged at the Canadian Chocolatier competition. Canadian bean-to-bar flavoured bars will be judged alongside bean-to-bar plain/origin chocolate bars in the Americas competition.

To help chocolate companies throughout the Americas region, we have reduced our registration and product entry fees this year to $50 each.

Remote judging for all products

Due to the coronavirus situation this year, all products will be judged remotely by repacking samples and sending them to our panel of international judges and Grand Jury to judge at home using our online evaluation system. The products for this competition will be received in our New Jersey base and will then be repacked following our well established sampling protocols for remote judging. Reference sets of each submission will be held at the receiving venue in case of any issue.

Judging will take place in phased stages from October 29th until November 25th.

Filled chocolates and chocolatier products and any other fresh or short-life items should arrive by October 24th.

Bars should arrive by October 31st, 2020.

If you are sending both types of products, you can send them together for the earlier deadline. If you have any problems meeting the deadlines or with customs or shipping, please keep in touch with our team and we will try to be as flexible as possible.

Winners of this competition will pass through to the World Final, which will also be phased and will be held from November onwards.

New: Ingredients categories (for cocoa powder and cocoa butter)

This competition now includes cocoa powder and cocoa butter made by craft chocolate makers. Please register as normal and choose the new ‘Ingredients’ product type. Products should be available for retail sale to consumers or wholesale for at least one month during the year of the competition. Amount required: 400 grams (14 ounces) per product.

Eleggibilità

Open to all entrants with their main office or headquarters in North, South and Central America, for all categories.

Canadian companies may only enter bean-to-bar plain/origin and flavoured bar entries in the Americas competition. The Canadian Chocolatier Competition for chocolatier products – flavoured bars made with couverture, filled chocolates and spreads – will take place in Toronto in October 2020. (Only one registration fee will be charged for companies entering both competitions).
